REMEMBERING DUSTY . . .

[61] I'm ten years younger than Dusty, and so was just beginning to sell songs when the British Invasion hit. A native of Los Angeles, I had the chance to see Dusty's performances and meet her on several occasions. She was candid, compassionate, opinionated, funny, beautiful, and incredibly talented. The news of her death has been on my mind all day, and came as one of those "Oh no, that can't be true" shocks, like John Lennon's death or JFK's death. Dusty contributed so much with her remarkable talent and tenacity. I'm sorry we've lost her, but at least her struggle is over and she's left a legacy we'll all cherish. The smiles we wear while listening to her music will be wistful now, but her immense and immortal presence will allow us to continue to enjoy her forever. We love you, Dusty. Be with peace.

[62] I sit here tonight with tears streaming down my face after only just hearing the news of Dusty's death. As her voice fills my living room courtesy of the stereo, I am reminded of life as a young man and the British Invasion of the '60s. Dusty was my idol. She was the epitomy of class and oh my, what a voice! I'm not just a fan. As a disc jockey in Dallas and Houston for over 25 years, I played her songs every chance I got. No one ever sounded like she did. The first of our three daughters was born 10-12-78, her name is Dusty Anne. Adios Dusty Springfield. You were loved and will be sorely missed!

[63] This is a sad day. I had been expecting it for about a year now, so it's surprising how absolutely gut-wrenching the news has turned out to be. Thank you, Dusty, for your integrity, your intelligence, and The Voice which has been with me since first heard in 1962 on that Springfields' song. Your pain is over. We love you.

[64] "You don't have to say you love me, just be close at hand. You don't have to stay forever, I will understand. Believe me, believe me . . . " Thank you for your deeply felt, heartful expression, your extraordinary gift to this lonely planet. You are one in a billion, we will never forget you - ever . . . Those Who Remain Behind, for now.

[65] What sad news. She was so talented and it was such a great loss. The US news coverage, with the exception of CNN, showed little respect. What a wonderful voice, and I am sad about her passing.

[67] I was just a kid in elementary school here in the States at the time of the "British Invasion" of which Dusty was in the forefront. I remember so well "Wishin' and Hopin'" and "I Only Want To Be With You." Great songs and pleasant memories. Dusty's passing, as in the case of my friend Steve Marriot, represents a part of my life gone. God Bless You, Dusty.

[68] My Dear Dusty, I am 29 years old yet I don't remember a time that you were not in my life. Your essense burst from an old 45 of my parents, never to be forgotten. "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" . . . what is there to say? Your songs are always in my head . . . my soul. Blond hair, black eyes, wanting to be someone other than Mary Catherine . . . just like the rest of us. Always wanting to be someone other than who we are. Mary Catherine will be missed and so will Dusty. Ne Me Quitte Pas.

[69] Dusty! You are at rest at last. I too battle the same cancer and know how ill the chemotherapy makes one feel. I danced and listened to your beautiful songs all through the '60s. Your CD was playing "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" this afternoon when my husband came in with the news of your death. We cried together, as we had danced together so many years ago. You made a beautiful difference in our lives. Rest in peace.

[75] It was a dream come true for us when Dusty Springfield agreed to sing with us on the song "What Have I Done To Deserve This?" She hadn't recorded for several years but as soon as she arrived in the studio and began to sing we knew that the greatest female singer Britain has ever produced was still on brilliant form. Quite honestly, we were in awe of her. Dusty was a tender, exhilarating and soulful singer, incredibly intelligent at phrasing a song, painstakingly building it up to a thrilling climax. She was also a warm and funny person. "What do you want me to sing like?" she asked on that first day we met. "You", we replied, and she seemed quite surprised. We are proud to have been a small part of her fabulous career.

[76] Dear Dusty, thank you for your contribution to the music of today. Your great voice, personality and appearance will be sadly missed. We want to dedicate the following lyrics to you as we remember: "Fly, fly precious one - your endless journey has begun - take your gentle happiness - far too beautiful for this - cross over to the other shore - there is peace forever more - but hold this memory bittersweet - until we meet - Fly, fly little wing - fly where only angels sing - fly away, the time is right - go now find the light . . ." Love you always. (Lyrics from the song "Fly" by Celine Dion as recorded on her album Falling Into You).

[77] Very, very sad news. I run a soul band and used to do "Son-Of-A Preacher Man". Will now add "I Only Want To Be With You" and "In the Middle of Nowhere" as a tribute.

[80] I was very saddened to hear of Dusty Springfield's passing. Dusty was my favorite female vocalist. She had what I refer to as the "girl next door voice." She had a great range and tremendous control. Dusty's voice was full of heart, soul, passion and magic. She was probably the only singer who could bring me to tears. She will be missed by many. God Bless, Dusty.
