CP Telecom Introduces Dedicated DSL Service
CP Telecom's new dedicated DSL service gives small to medium businesses the high-speed and "always on" convenience of a dedicated connection to the Internet at a fraction of the cost of most dedicated access options.
About DSL
DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line, a generic name for a new technology that brings high-bandwidth Internet connections to homes and businesses over ordinary copper telephone lines. DSL takes existing voice cables and turns them into a high-speed digital link.
How it Works
DSL uses more of the bandwidth on copper lines that are currently used to deliver your phone service. It uses frequencies above 4,000 Hz and can encode more data to achieve higher data rates than is otherwise possible in the frequency range of your telephone.
CP Telecom began offering DSL service in the Twin Cities metro region in November 1999 and in the downtown Duluth area in June 2000. We will offer the service in other areas as it becomes available.
Availability
The first thing to determine is whether the Qwest central office providing your phone service is offering DSL. If Qwest has deployed it in your area, there are other considerations. If the telephone wires to your location from Qwest central office exceed the distance limit of approximately 2 to 3 miles, you will not be able to receive DSL service. Other factors such as temperature, wire gauge and the physical condition of the wire may raise or lower the effective distance at which the service can be offered.
