The Low Frequency Receiving Loop
The Spreaders are 3 feet, making the loop 6 feet in diameter. There are
5 spreaders so the windings can alternate from side to side. There
are 30 turns of 18 gauge stranded insulated wire. The 1x2 spreaders
were cut to 3 foot lengths. Then 1/8 inch holes 1/2 inch apart and
staggered 1/4 inch side to side were drill in the spreaders. (15
holes to a side, 2 sides , 5 spreaders = 150 holes) Two slots were
cut on the table saw in each spreader to hold the wires. The spreaders
were attached to the circular center supports. As the wire was wrapped
around the frame, 1/8 inch fiberglass rod was shoved into the holes and
cut off. The whole thing was made with scrap material and things
I have been scrounging. I use one of Lyle
(K0LR) Koehler's balanced preamps on the loop and turn it with a CDR
TR-44 Rotator. I painted the center to give it a tinker toy look.
