My Original Low Frequency Transmitting Antenna
This is the Low Frequency Transmitting Antenna I used until July 2000.
It was about 40 feet high and had a 5 1/2 foot diameter top hat.
Starting at the ground the lower 20 feet of aluminum is the mast of an
old 450 MHz antenna. The top 20 feet is an old fiberglass (450 MHz
again) antenna. The loading coil in the middle is a 5 gallon pail
(birdseed). And the top hat is 3/8 inch aluminum scrap that was left
over from the center of some fiber optic carrying static wire. All
junk put to a new use. The only thing I bought was the 500 foot spool
of #14 stranded house wire. The bucket has 76 close spaced turns
and the fiber glass top 18 feet is wound with about a 3/8 inch wind spacing.
I estimate I used a little over 300 feet of #14 to wind this antenna.
